Swiss artist Andrea Hasler has made a reputation for wax-covered sculptures that look like meat. Hasler’s newest installation, entitled ‘Embrace the Sun,’ carries on with that same creepy visual trend. Embrace the Sun is a collection of meaty tents and rocks sprouting both legs and arms.
The installation was commissioned by New Greenham Arts in Berkshire, England, a location of demonstrations against nuclear armaments in the 1980s. Embrace the Sun is inspired by the tents and individuals involved in those protests. The meat tents seem like internal organs plucked from some suffering human – perhaps that’s what Hasler intended.
