Believe it or not, the beautiful flower shapes you see below can only be viewed under a microscope, and they’re small enough to grow on the face of a coin. These unbelievable creatures are the works of Harvard University postdoctoral researcher Wim Noorduin and Harvard chemistry professor Joanna Aizenberg. The pair set out to sculpt crystal on a micro-sized level by manipulating its surrounding conditions.
By using a combination of chemicals, the latest in lab techniques and optical technologies, the two scientists managed to find beauty in the most unlikely conditions. Who said science has no artistic value?
