CSS-based interactive exhibition about endangered animals

Designer Bryan James has created a CSS-based interactive exhibition that calls attention to 30 endangered animal species. From the Brazilian armadillo to the Somali Ostrich and Red Panda, the online interface of Species In Pieces lets you explore what’s threatening the species, see the statistics, and even watch a video of the animal.

The designer said of the project: “In Pieces started as experimentation and tinkering in code, not a grand plan for an interactive piece to help conservation, as romantic as that notion sounds.”  His focus was on CSS polygons and pushing the “underused line of code as far as possible”, he said.

You can read more about his coding, sketching, and design process in his write-up about the project.
