There are a lot of people out there who pay too much attention to body image. We’re wrapped up in hair styles, clothes, handbags, even makeup, but few take time to actually appreciate the body for what it is, and even fewer take a long look at their own. French photographer Julien Palast is trying to change that however, with a provocative new visual of the human body that spares us the distractions of our media driven facades.
His series entitled ‘Skin Deep’ places subjects, both male and female, in colorful shrink wrapping that displays the human body like never before. A study of curves and shape, it spares us the details providing an unobstructed view of our bodily contours. His work also speaks through the striking poses of his subjects and the taut lines of the wrap. It’s almost as if these basic principles of the body are trying to claw their way out.
