Danh Vo, Untitled, 2008

In this video artist Danh Vo recalls encountering a deteriorated statue of Saint Joseph in an antiques shop, and the international travel restrictions for luggage that led him to create “Untitled” (2008). Partly compelled by the practical constraints of transporting such a large object, he sliced it into six sections. He says, “I decided to make some pieces that would fit into these obscure measurements.”

“Danh Vo: Take My Breath Away” is on view at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York from February 9 to May 9, 2018.
