Disney is famous for its beautiful cartoons showing brave and kind-hearted characters that despite many obstacles, eventually fulfill their dreams and fade away into the happy and hopeful future. In his series ‘Unhappily Ever After’ New York-based illustrator Jeff Hong decided to speculate on the things that might have happened to our beloved characters after their stories seemingly ended. The artist introduces us to the darkly alternative reality, where Disney characters come to life in our real and often harsh world.
All of these illustrations show the deeply difficult and problematic world we are living in. Seeing the sweet and naive characters dealing with animal abuse, poverty, pollution, racism and other global social and environmental issues is heartbreaking. However, Hong’s experiment worked and his illustrations may just reach more people and increase awareness about global problems.
