David Weeks Meets Fritz Haller for a Remix

David Weeks Meets Fritz Haller for a Remix

New York-based lighting designer David Weeks has taken the iconic modular furniture of Fritz Haller and given it his own spin. An exhibition of eight unique pieces have been presented by Swiss brand USM Modular Furniture in David Meets Fritz. It made its debut during ICFF and NYCxDESIGN in May, and will be on display through the end of June at USM’s New York City showroom. The interest is in the dialogue created between the two designers, as Weeks reduces Haller’s work to its base elements. The results are artful, irreverent, and imbued with honor towards Haller.

Weeks said: “This project offered a great opportunity to deconstruct and reconfigure the iconic components of USM furniture. By introducing the medium of collage, the collaboration ultimately became a playful meta-portrait of modular design.” Seven collages accompany the furniture pieces, giving the exhibition an additional layer of originality.

Weeks collaborated with Evan Eisman, a Brooklyn-based design, fabrication, and finishing studio, on the sculptural side tables. The tabletops are made of fine-grain extruded graphite.
