Decorative temporary sand murals on public streets

Sand painting is an ancient art, but now contemporary artist Joe Mangrum is creating intricate and vibrant paintings by sprinkling colored sand on streets around the United States.

Since 2006 Mangrum has been creating amazing large-scale compositions on the streets of cities like New York City, Chicago and San Francisco. Mangrum spends six to eight hours on each creation. His designs are made as he goes along, but they have patterns, swirls and shapes reminiscent of Tibetan sand paintings.
