Decorative typeface laser-cut for traditional printing

This decorative alphabet typeface is an extrapolation of the Bodini Poster font featuring beautiful patterns and textures within the spaces that were formerly solid shapes. After developing the design digitally, laser-cut 3mm plywood letter-forms were mounted to wooden blocks. The letter elements were then typeset by London letterpress shop New North Press, to produce a limited edition poster.

Nigel Bents, Paul Oakley and Jonny Holmes collaborated on the design at Chelsea College of Art & Design. As Holmes explains on his website, the project is “an example of a digital start leading to an analogue finish.”
