French illustrator working under the name Marynn is just 21 years old. In a new series of works called Head Tuner, she uses her trusted 2B-pencil to create lusciously detailed drawings of hairstyles. These fine pencil lines are contrasted by a few bold strokes of acrylic paint which add color and a rough spontaneity to activate the image.
The works are a kind of reverse portrait where all of the models are looking away from the viewer. The artist explains that the inspiration for the works is when you pass someone on the street and turn for a second look, but you were one second too late for a second glimpse of her face. Instead, “you only have her back, her perfume, and a taste of regret”, says the artist.
