Designs addressing housing problems are winners in the recent Hong Kong Pixel Homes competition

Aiming to address the current and progressing housing problem in Hong Kong, the Bee Breeders have finally chosen the winners for the Hong Kong Pixel Homes competition. Each of the winners has shown “green” and “student” housing strategies for housing design that made use of the competition’s goal: formal, technological, and material strategies predicated on modularity and repetition.

The First Prize went to the housing design called “Towers within a Tower” by Alison Von Glinow, Lap Chi Kwong, and Kevin Lamyuktseung. It is conceived in the premise of vertically stacked apartment units that are repetitive in design. It also maximizes the use of natural lighting and ventilation circulation with the use of open courtyards.
