I feel bad that I enjoyed this beautifully executed series of photographs so much. Catherine Chalmers has documented death in the animal kingdom outside of the context of the wilderness in her new series ‘Food Chain.’
In the wild, the act of eating prey seems hostile and brutal, but against a sterile white backdrop the vibrant textures and colors are showcased, providing an entirely new perspective. I never thought I would be so awe-struck by caterpillar guts! The fact that these are photos, rather than videos, further removes some of the sympathy I typically feel for animals in the midst of being eaten.
