Dreamlike paper sculptures bring new life to old books

Spain-based artist Malena Valcárcel knows how to recycle with high creativity and style. She uses various discarded books, scraps of paper and eco-friendly materials to create tiny fantastical paper sculptures rich with emotion and delightful stories.

Born in Tenerife, Valcárcel grew up “without losing sight of the sea,” always close to nature. This soothing environment inspired her elegant and refined take on art. The self-taught artist has tried many art forms and different materials in the course of her life until she chose paper as her favorite. This delicate material makes the little sculptures look more surreal, emphasizing the innocence and longing that they transcend.
