Drone created to pollinate flowers designed to look like a real bee

A Savannah College of Art Design Industrial student in Georgia recently came up with a fun drone design that can be used to pollinate flowers even without bees.

After drafting 50 designs for this project, Anna Haldewang settled for a prototype that she purposely created to look like a bee. The size of it is so compact and weight is basically nonexistent that anyone can fit it in their palms, place it anywhere in the house, or carry it with them anytime. Called the Plan Bee, it can hover over the flower and mimics the cross-pollination that only bees can do. It is practically a small drone with six holes in its body which redeems pollen from the flowers.

According to Haldewang, Plan Bee is beneficial to society since people can observe up close and fully understand how pollination works. She says, “‘this concept has the ability to move beyond a backyard and into the future of hydroponics and space.”
