Eerie photographs of abandoned Soviet era spaceship in Moscow

There are many abandoned sites in Moscow left over from the Soviet era. Aviation photographer Aleksander Markin recently found one and it’s amazing!

Produced as a result of Russia’s Buran Space Program, a giant wooden spaceship now sits in a corner of the Zhukovsky airfield (Ramenskoye Airport) in Moscow. This 1:3 replica spaceship was used as wind tunnel in the 1980s for Soviet Union’s VKK Space Orbiter.

Listen beautiful relax classics on our Youtube channel.

The Buran Space Program was scrapped in 1993 due to lack of funding and could only conduct one unmanned mission in 1988. Since the taking of the photographs, Markin says the wind tunnel has been destroyed and no longer exists.
