Elaborately-dressed bagworms dresses female consumer culture in Japan

Aki Inomata is tackling female consumer culture in Japan as part of her elaborate series in an odd and creative way!

The artist dressed female bagworms with pieces of extravagant attire, designed to be protective cases of sorts. She purposely chose to use female bagworms because, unlike their masculine partners, they retain their protective cases for the entirety of their lives. The work was exhibited in Japan and serves as Inomata’s commentary on what women go through to be accepted by society in terms of their looks. Check out some of her creative bagworm dresses below and find more on her website.
