Electrical team leader, teacher, and artist in one: See how a pioneer helps his university become better through art

Tony Delaurentis is a jack of all trades, in a way. He spends his time between his own work, teaching classes, creating in his studio, and making art – most of this is all for his university: UNC Asheville. He’s gotten pretty good at balancing his multiple roles.

“I like the presence of it. You can control the size of the artwork. It can be something that fits in your hand, or it can be as large as this room or a building…plus the freedom of different materials,” he talks about his sculpted art on campus.

“Being an art student you have to keep a schedule and be creative, and that’s very much so with my regular work, too. Actually, my electrical job helped immensely with my artwork because I knew how to maintain a schedule, or how to dedicate time to a project.”
