This chandelier by Julian Melchiorri is either an elegant lighting solution or a living organism.
The London-based designer and engineer has created a piece called, “Exhale,” made up of 70 glass petals containing solutions of green algae. The organisms are sustained by daylight, LEDs, and drip-feed to nutrients. Melchiorri’s design won the 2017 Emerging Talent Medal at the London Design Festival.
