Gone are the days when the pencil was the one and mighty tool for an illustrator. Artist Karla Ortiz, however, is sticking with the tried and true.
The San Francisco-based artist’s career is a successful one given that her day job consists of working as a concept artist for Marvel Film Studios. When she’s not helping create the next blockbuster superhero flick, Karla spends her time doing some traditional artwork in the form of extremely detailed, surreal in tone fine art illustrations.

Her recent work, titled “Omens”, is a portrait of a child clothed in white as birds fly across the canvas. It’s currently being displayed at the Thinspace Gallery in Culver City, California. Check out the video below showcasing her process and visit her website for other brilliant works.
