How extreme you might ask? Some of them are standing at the ends of the Earth! These structures are built to withstand incredible temperatures and other environmental factors, so that scientists and researchers can work on tackling some of the planet’s biggest problems at their source (eg. climate change, rising sea levels). A series of research facilities and laboratories are built in the Antarctic, deep underwater, and some are alongside remote ecosystems.
