Though McQueen lacked personal intimacy with Eye’s diverse cultural references, certain design details demonstrate his appreciation for their aesthetics: a red, white, and black striped miniskirt is reminiscent of French-influenced silks fashionable in eighteenth-century Turkey, while a top with partially detached sleeves emulates Turkish garment construction. At the same time, a white soccer-inspired look adorned with red crescent moons—reminiscent of Turkey’s national flag and men’s football uniform—reinforces the idea that Eye depicts a competition between East and West.
