Christina West is a figure sculptor making realistic humans in curious situations. Her subjects often look confused and are in uncommon positions interacting with each other. You want to relate to the people, feel empathy, but their skewed scale and bright colors keep you just far enough away to feel constantly alienated.
In West’s current exhibition ‘Intimate Strangers’ at Mindy Solomon Gallery in Miami you will find figures that range from small to larger than life. Each of them possesses an eerie consciousness and looks intently off into the distance or stares right through you.
