I paint imagined landscapes with oils. My paintings convey the interplay between the observed world of nature and the impact it has on the emotional life of the observer.
The landscapes are abstracted from memory. Inspiration comes from the meandering Connecticut River, the hills and valleys of western Massachusetts, the salt marshes of Cape Cod, the mountains of Vermont and the beautiful islands of the Caribbean.
My paintings are intended to evoke the feelings one gets when experiencing a sunset or sunrise, or the reflection of clouds on water.
The heavenliness of the wild places, the colorful, immense, magnificent earth inspire me as I paint a world where these wild places are slowly disappearing.
My work has a luminous quality. I paint open, uncluttered landscapes, with land, air, clouds, water as the subjects and try keep my work as simple as possible.

For me, painting is a form of meditation, bringing the essence of feeling into form. The act of placing paint on canvas is a practice that relaxes my body and rejuvenates my soul.
I have been a student of art my entire life. I especially loved classes at the Decordova Museum School, where I developed my skills with Boston artists. A few years later, I entered a two-year program in western Massachusetts to learn oil painting.
I took a few years to develop the technique and style that you see here.
Collectors have viewed my work at open studios and shows since 2007. My paintings have been on display in galleries and fine arts festivals in the Northeast. Twice each year I open my studio to the public, at holiday time and in the spring.
My paintings are about peace, beauty and color. The combination of these properties of earth, air and water gives my audience that sense of open spaces; I have heard from viewers that seeing my work is “like a breath of fresh air.”
