Find your way through these fantasy worlds illustrated in colorful maps by Arlin Ortiz

Arlin Ortiz is no stranger to fantasy maps. As a young boy, he would draw his own version of worlds using Pam Beasant and Alastair Smith’s book on How to Draw Maps and Charts as his guide. His parents were very supportive of his art so after graduating Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, he ended up working as a freelance illustrator in Burbank, California.

Ortiz later on found himself enjoying role-playing card and table games which would lead him into creating his own fantasy world through his maps which he made available online and called Monster Pamphlet. His recent collection of intricately drawn, medieval maps will be featured on his up and coming book called Any Which Way: an Adventurer’s Atlas. His illustrations inspire a kind of fantasy in readers, using only colors and abstract objects as his maps’ main elements. There are no definite scales, only that vintage and classic look of adventure.

As he makes additional work for his collection, Ortiz says that he will focus more on “world building” by creating larger maps that will feature “items, characters, monster, and more.”
