Former Drone Team Possibly Designs the Most Advanced Hair Dryer Ever

A hundred engineers, designers, hairdressers, and scientists from L’Oréal’s Research & Innovation Division and hardware startup company Zuvi – that’s how many minds worked together to develop the new AirLight Pro hair dryer ahead of its unveiling at CES 2024. The styling tool promises to dry hair faster while keeping strands smoother and more hydrated than your typical hair dryer using a unique blade array alongside a patented heating technology. The twist – the team behind this modern blowhard was once dedicated to pushing the bounds of unmanned aerial devices.

The contemporary styled hair drying tool was designed by Zuvi, a hardware startup company founded not by trichologist or cosmetologist, but by a team of former engineers and scientists from drone brand, DJI. The members parlayed their past success developing fan propulsion technology into an award-winning hair dryer manufactured with a degree of precision and durability unique to the category, earning Zuvi an iF Design Award in 2021.

Their latest venture with L’Oréal’s Research & Innovation Division appears to build upon the brand’s first generation Halo Hair Dryer, using the same patented infrared technology powered by tungsten–halogen bulbs allowing the dryer to dry hair quickly without torching locks to a crisp. The AirLight Pro directs the gently heated air using a 17-blade, high-speed motor while also using up to 31% less energy during the average drying session, while adding a small display onto its handheld grip.

Unsurprisingly, the CES-announced AirLight Pro is connected via an app allowing users to customize the settings for their individual needs hair type, length, and style.

The L’Oréal Groupe has yet to share pricing and availability, but when the AirLight Pro does officially become available, we expect something in line with the original pricing of the Zuvi Halo Hair Dryer.
