In an effort to create a visual for the saying “all roads lead to Rome”, which has been used since the Middle Ages, geography expert Raphael Reimman and interactive designer Philipp Schmitt were enlisted by Moovel Lab’s Benedict Groß.
The result of the project is “Roads to Rome”, where the team mapped out more than 400,000 starting points across the world that lead to Rome.

“Our interest and process was not driven by a predefined task to prove something, but was of an explorative nature.” said Schmitt. “We thought this was interesting, so we figured out how to calculate and visualise a picture of it. Once that was accomplished, we analysed what we had and moved on from there.”
