Furniture design inspired by nature: The Ivy Chair

You can visually see the comfort in Enrico Gondim’s new chair design. The seat cushion is not hidden underneath a coating of fabric or foam, but instead, it is beautifully exposed bringing pleasure to your eyes AND to your bum. The seat design of the Ivy Chair draws inspiration from culturally traditional processes and biomimicry principals.

The felt cushion is hand woven using a palm weaving technique altered by Gondim for three-dimensional application. The weaving technique has roots within the mathematical principals frequently found in nature.  The result of applying this type of design to furniture is a modern aesthetic and a relaxing experience similar to lounging in a hammock.
