Gaze into the eyes of these unsettling portraits

With countenances showing panic, alarm, and discomfort, the portraits of Jenny Morgan are not always easy visuals. Her unusual use of color adds both temperature and emotion to the pieces. This select color abstraction is made even more powerful when juxtaposed against normal skin tones.

The NYC-based artist was recently profiled in Juxtapoz Magazine where she discusses her portrayal of the “shadow self.” She explains, “For me, the allure of the shadow self lies in the conceptualization-turned-realization of thought manifesting into form.”

Morgan’s work is currently on exhibition at Denver’s Plus Gallery, the Perdue University Gallery in Indiana, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Jacksonville.
