‘Ghost’: shifting traces on particles of colour, immortalised like the ghosts of old Pompeii

Riego van Wersch’s “Ghost” series:

Marks of life left behind as shifting traces on particles of colour,

Listen beautiful relax classics on our Youtube channel.

immortalised like the ghosts of old Pompeii,

held in time to guard against the oblivion that must come to us all.

Like melody without music, we let ourselves dream, led by our emotions.

But we exist only for a moment, in the space of our memory,

before disappearing into the depths of time.

In this series the image staves off oblivion, holding on to the starlight for a few extra moments as it glimmers in the passing night.

With a strange beauty we appear and disappear, a second, a moment, a lifetime, and then the void that so preoccupies our fanciful hearts. We are born to disappear, we live to be forgotten, in the game of life and death

Freed from the weight of our folly we can raise our eyes to the future, to our inevitable end.

Riego van Wersch was born in Nice in 1971 and lives in Los Angeles. He tackles photography precociously at the age of 11 in an autodidactic way. His first exhibition was for Amnesty International at the age of 17 in France.

Graduate of the Gobelins, Photography section, at 24, he becomes Director of Photography, and signs the picture of the international advertising campaigns for prestigious brands and celebrities (Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, Jennifer Lopez, Kate Moss, Jane Fonda…).
