For one weekend in a small town factory near Tokyo, botanical artist Azuma Makoto put on an installation where gorgeous flower bouquets were frozen and suspended in 16 blocks of ice as preserved botanical sculptures. Lined up in columns of three on the factory floor, the blocks of ice liven up an otherwise industrial environment with the pristine, exotic flower arrangements inside them.
Makoto’s recent works have largely concerned flowers in unique settings, including launching them into space. “Flowers will show unique expressions that they do not display in everyday life, when placed under such a different environment,” said Azuma.
