The Washington Monument, the Jefferson Memorial, the White House–all represent stereotypical Washington, D.C. to most people. But if you saw colorful rowhouses, Victorian mansions and cobblestone roads, would you also picture the capital of the U.S.? Probably not, but graphic designer Anthony Dihle seeks to change all that.
Dihle, a native of D.C.-adjacent Frederick, Maryland, noticed that some of his favorite neighborhoods in the District didn’t get much love, and thus began his “D.C. Neighborhood Project”. He begins each print by photographing a distinctive part of the neighborhood, then designs each poster based on that photograph.
