Grass grows through dense fabric in Martin Roth’s poetic rug installations

Nature finds a way to take over – even through the thick fabric of rugs and carpets.

New York-based Austrian artist Martin Roth waters his carpets daily to ensure that grass he’s planted within the fiber grows fast and lush. Over time, the rug will deteriorate and the grass will die in a cleverly poetic and political act by Roth. The artist’s latest rug installation can be found at the Korean Cultural Centre in London under the title, “Riptide.” Check out some of his rug interventions below and find more on his website.
