Seen ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ yet? If you haven’t, what on Earth are you waiting for? The latest from Marvel balances out hilarity and seriousness perfectly and is an all-around good time. The makeup artists on the film deserve a lot more credit than they got, in my opinion.
Guardians used “well over 1,000 prosthetic makeup applications” and over “2,000 molds of yellow, blue and pink aliens.” Lead makeup designer David White, when asked about the inspiration behind the aliens’ designs, said “Looking at creatures in real life helps, but if you were to take some thoughts and ideas too literally it could look very silly.” His work began months before production and required head casts of the actors/actresses so that he could test various materials and techniques.
