Heartbreaking clay sculptures of a family fleeing their home in Gaza

Palestinian artist Iyad Sabbah has created this emotionally moving installation of clay sculptures in the Shuja’iyya neighborhood of Gaza. It is a heart-wrenching symbol of citizens fleeing the destruction of their war-torn city.

The sculpture titled ‘worn out’ is made of clay and depicts a family making their way over the rough terrain with devastation behind them. The figures appear mummified and tired with splashes of red paint on their clothes and body representing bloodshed. Sabbah’s goal with this work is to commemorate the victims of the latest war.
