Heavy Street Furniture Designed to be Moved with a Pallet Jack

Concrete is a good choice for park and street furniture; the wind won’t move it, and thieves are unlikely to hoist it off. But woe to the civic workers who must install or move the stuff. Thus Schemata Architects designed this line of street furniture for Tokyo Torch Park to be easily transportable with a pallet jack.

“Since the first building of the TOKYO TORCH urban complex was completed in 2021, and the second building is scheduled to be completed in 2027, the temporary enclosure of the construction site continuously moves, which means that the outdoor furniture has to continuously move, too,” they explain. “For this reason, we proposed furniture that can be moved with a hand-lifter, one of the interface systems we developed as furniture that induces human activity.”
