In a world of realistic CGI animations and the endless pursuit of using technology to manufacture reality, artist Ville Kallio has taken an entirely different approach.
His series of illustrations and animated GIFs have an 8-bit look, reminiscent of the pixelated renderings from an old version of Microsoft Paint. But this reference to a lo-fi technology is integrated into drawings that have fluid and elegant line-work. The combination of these Egon Schiele-like figures colored with bold neons and fuchsias is strangely enticing. One might even say these are the “outsider art” of animated GIFs.
