Hi-Tech vs. Low-Tech Production Methods to Make Rubber Bands

I recently learned there’s two different ways to make rubber bands: A capital-intensive extrusion method, and a low-tech method similar to candle-making, where simple PVC tubes are dipped into liquid latex like wicks into candle wax. Here’s the first version:

I found the second version much more interesting, partially because they show you the entire process–starting with getting the sap out of the tree–and also because the production is a lot more basic. (I did cringe a bit at the lack of safety features on the cutting machine.)
