Hilarious photo of butterfly-covered Amazon caiman

This post contains just one photograph. And it’s one you can’t miss.

Photographer Mark Cowan was strolling through the Amazon as part of his study of reptile and amphibian diversity with the Herpetology Division at the University of Michigan. It was during this trip that he stumbled upon a caiman with a head covered in butterflies. It’s not as unusual as it may at first seem. Salt is necessary for butterflies to survive and sometimes they resort to drinking the tears of reptiles in regions where salt is rare. It’s amazing how three different species were found so close together. Check it out!
