Hilton Innerland

Listen as curator Tina Oldknow describes Innerland, designed by glass artist Eric Hilton and executed at Steuben Glass, Inc. This piece is a multi-part sculpture that expresses designer Eric Hilton’s concept of the unity of life and of the “inner being, or inner land, which is shared by all people everywhere.” The complex design and flawless execution of this sculpture make it one of Steuben’s greatest achievements. The highly refractive quality of the Steuben glass was exploited by Hilton in this crystal landscape, with its dreamlike topographical features that are meticulously engraved, cut, and sand-sculpted. Four years in the making, the sculpture offers an opportunity for meditation on a mystical, inner world, an enchanted microcosm to discover and explore.
