How many layers to use in digital painting – character design. Layers management in Photoshop for digital painting.
The usual process that I usually do, I’m gonna show you guys how. Anyways, alright, well, let’s get to the tutorial. Originally I was gonna upload a painting Wonder Woman tutorial today, but I kinda accidentally, take it further than I should.

So this video is going to be a quick tip on how I manage layers
on the character design during the process that I’m painting. Sometimes you see me painting and then you’re wondering how
I manage the layer in there. So in this video, “How do I usually manage my layer when I made a character?”
And, it’s not universal. People do have different way
of managing their own artwork and how they do things. So in here, as you can see I separate the character from the background.
This one I have five to six main layers from bottom to top.
1) Shield
2) Hair from behind
3) Main body and head
4) Armor
5) Front arm
6) Front hair
This way, whenever I paint it doesn’t smear over other layers and unintentional part of the character. I can also use selection tool for a quick mask on each layer. This is the most useful way I find when designing a character. I can easily modify the outfit. I can change her hair style without having to repaint her face.
