How to paint medieval scene. This tutorial shows you how to draw and paint knight and statue environmental concept art. You need to have some knowledge of perspective and I am using three points perspective in this tutorial.

In this tutorial I start with foreground shape with a rough perspective guide. Then I set up the buildings in the background using three points perspective. I am using the roofs and columns to dictate where my vanishing point is. Then I just create a platform then a horse rider statue in the mid ground. Then I use lighting from the top right side of the screen. At this stage, I only focus on big shapes, perspective and composition to get the overall look and feel of the scene first. Using lasso tool and texture brushes can be very useful in making perspective grids. As long as you know where the vanishing point is then you can just make lasso tool to point it there. Once the big shapes are align with perspective then I can paint characters. You have to make sure your perspective is correct or very close, then you can add the detail to the background and characters as I go on painting.
I basically paint free hand most of the time in this video. Hopefully this can be really helpful to you all.
This time though I have a good idea of what I want to paint. But sometime, I will just let the visual shapes and color guide me as I go.
Again I usually start my image from shapes and build those shape up along with perspective and composition in mind. Then lighting or value.
Tips on speedpainting. Keep it simple first and make your image clear and easy to read or identify.
