Impossible balancing dancers shot in staged background and incredibly timed photographs

What do you get when you combine incredibly flexible dancers, interesting backgrounds, lights and shadows, and a camera? That’s exactly what Gem Fletcher and Marcus Palmqvist played on for their recent collaboration and the results are ethereal.

“Impossible Balance” is a staged photographic project that the two worked on with the help of dancers from the Stockholm Dance Company. Every single fluid movement suspended in seemingly impossible timing has been shot in camera. Fletcher arranged the setting, chose the outfits and decided on the movements.

Palmqvist, on the other hand, captured the unbelievable balance in perfect harmony with the dancers. Talking about the project, the artists shared that the concept of it all was to reveal in graceful and “the delicate tension around the concept of being in control.”

The photo series is definitely not your typical approach when it comes to photography. Not only does it give credit to all the elements purposely included in one photograph, it also celebrates the artistic abilities of everyone involved.
