Contemporary design has been transformed by smart technology. From tiny planters to entire cities, “self-monitoring” models are celebrated for both their connectivity and convenience. Taking this trend to new heights, design studio Typified has created a work of wall art that doubles as a live weather forecast.
Promising that you’ll “never forget to check the weather again,” the Typified Weather Poster is a state-of-the-art way to monitor your local meteorology. Each poster is outfitted with a tiny computer and printed with smart ink, a responsive medium that changes color when prompted by a stimulus.
In this case, the stimulus is the computer, which relies on a WiFi connection to keep up to date with changes in weather. As the computer interfaces with the ink, icons emerge, symbolizing sunny, cloudy, and wet weather in four time slots: 8 am, 12 pm, 4 pm, and 8 pm.
Though modern in concept, the product is aesthetically simple. Rather than use a screen or lights, Typified opted to employ traditional screen-printing methods to create the product. This approach has culminated in a new kind of smart technology that is subtle and low-key rather than “intrusive and overly demanding.”

With this screen-printed poster, you’ll now know the weather any time you look at your wall.
