Artist Lamia Joreige explores in her work the cultural impact of the Lebanese Civil War (1975–90). For her film Here and Perhaps Elsewhere (2003), she walked the (now) invisible Green Line that divided Beirut for more than a decade of war, asking strangers if they knew anyone who was kidnapped during the conflict. Their responses disrupt the silence surrounding the wartime missing that continues to haunt postwar Beirut.
