Installation showcases porcelain marine creatures and undersea flora

Ocean advocacy can take many artistic forms. For Courtney Mattison, it has taken the shape of a large-scale ceramic installation.

The Denver-based artist, who has also studied marine ecology and received a Master of Arts degree in environmental studies from Brown University, has unveiled her latest installation called “Aqueduct”. The piece showcases porcelain undersea flora and fauna along with creatures including anemones, sponges, and coral sprouting from an air duct. Another piece, titled “Hope Spots”, depict areas that are critical to the overall ecology of the seas.
