Internal monsters depicted in haunting portraits

Seungyea Park is a Korean born artist who studied at Long Island University. By combining drawing and painting, her two-dimensional works explore interior mindscapes and imagined realities. Park explains, “My work addresses the topic of ‘Monstrousness’ caused by fear in our inner world.”

“I make my work wishing that I can be accustomed to and overcome fear by drawing out, and facing monsters, or the true nature of fear,” said Park. “Monsters are everywhere. At the moment the ‘I’ within me faces the ‘I’ outside of me. They try to avoid, conceal, and deny each other, considering the other a monster. They have conflicts, captured by another ‘fear’”
