Intricate geometric carvings on fruits and vegetables that would stop you from eating them

Mukimono, a traditional practice in Japan, is the astonishing art of carving out shapes, even faces, on various fruits and vegetables. It is extremely time-delicate as discoloration of the piece can start once it is gutted or peeled off. One Japanese artist, however, has just beaten everyone in the game with his seemingly more strenuous version of the art.

The artist, who only goes by name of Gaku, does not only preserve the fruit’s natural freshness and color, he also carves out intricately thought out geometric shapes out of them. The carvings, which are all inspired by various Japanese themes and motifs, are done within minutes to retain the natural physical attributes of his piece. He uses an x-acto knife like all the other Mukimono enthusiasts and buys his pieces from the nearest grocery store.

According to Gaku, the banana is the best fruit to practice with since it can be bought anywhere, is cheap, and easy to work on. The pieces are not completely lost though as Gaku has humorously added that he eats all of them. “Except for the banana peel.”
