Hungarian/German graphic designer David Szakaly has been influencing the minds of gif-makers for years. It’s hard to log onto Tumblr and not come across one of his mind-boggling colorful loopy gifs.
His work can simply be described as the pavement where art and animation meet. They’re minimalistic, usually black and white, and a testament to Szakaly’s early experiments with the vector animation program Macromedia Flash. After having worked as a graphic designer on loads of client projects, he decided to learn motion graphics and soon discovered Tumblr as a platform to share his work. Fast forward to 2014, he’s nothing less than a celebrity with a legion of graphic designers who look to him for inspiration.
