Intricate makeup flattens human faces into iconic 2D art

These illusionary works of body-art flatten the human face to portray popular images with a surprising visual experience.  Russian photographer Alexander Khokhlov and makeup artist Valeriya Kutsan have just completed their second face-art collaboration called ‘2D Or Not 2D.’

You may recognize some of the iconic paintings reimagined including Lichtenstein, Basquiat, and Mondrian. The astonishing painting skill comes into play where the artists must compensate for the curves of the human face by thickening and slimming lines as needed. The result of this line manipulation is a flat poster-like finish on a living 3-D model.

Listen beautiful relax classics on our Youtube channel.

I love how this illusionary work pulls perception of reality in multiple directions: 2D vs. 3D, real vs. Illustration. The artists then mask these visual conflicts with iconic subject matter adding an extra layer of brain confusion!
