A new series by artist Joel Daniel Phillips (previously featured here). charts the discovery and production of oil in the Los Angeles area. a county founded on fossil fuel, an economic and environmental history deeply at odds with many contemporary Californians ideas of sustainability and the identity of one of the most well known cities in the world. Created from reference photographs found in the Los Angeles Public Library, Phillips drawings walk the line between imagination and reality; the actual past and our possible future.
